PRESENTS
HISTORIC ST. AUGUSTINE HOLIDAY NIGHTS OF LIGHTS! Saturday, December 3
8a.m. Depart from Ascension Catholic Church off the corner of US1 and Parkway in the Southwest corner of the rear of the parking lot near the train tracks. After our late morning arrival in the center of Historic Saint Augustine, our nation’s oldest city, we will visit Flagler’s White Marble Crypt at the church he built in a year housing high ceilings as in European Cathedrals and the largest pipe organ in the Southeast.
We will have time to stroll the Downtown area with it’s’ more than 80 shops along cobbled lanes shaded by moss-draped oaks. Scattered throughout blocks of historic landmarks , you may discover eclectic offerings from specialty gifts such as handmade candles, woven goods and wood crafts, to clothing and more...There are many choices for lunch on your own today in the old city including the famous Columbia Restaurant in the historic district or tuck into the “Prince of Wales” featured in Southern Living to enjoy a plate of crispy fish and chips and lift a pint of ale at this British pub run by expat Tony Woodward and his wife, Sharon. Order only one entree; the servings are enormous. Just save a wee bit of appetite for the Sticky Toffee Pudding.
After lunch, step back in time, whereby since the 1900's the St. Augustine Scenic Cruise has been giving visitors to St. Augustine a unique view of the city and a way to enjoy St. Augustine's historic land marks and natural beauty aboard the Victory III. The welcome center has a movie that recreates and unravels the progression of Florida’s history. Our driving tour also includes a visit and samples from the Saint Sebastian Winery. The Evening driving tour looks completely different when after Sunset the entire Old City is illuminated with millions of white lights. Return: Approximately 9:30pm-10pm.
